Linie72 by RALF SCHMITZ / Berlin
Luxury meets
nonchalance in
Berlin Mitte
Urban flair in
luxurious ambience
When you think of Berlin, you think of small, trendy cafés, casually-dressed people, urban vibes, and hustle-and-bustle just as much as you think of exclusive parties interwoven into daily life, luxury, and capital-city glamor. Ralf Schmitz's LINIE72project proves that the two worlds are not mutually exclusive: In the heart of the capital, this renowned developer, whose name stands for exclusive real estate projects like no other, worked with Sebastian Treese Architects to combine urban nonchalance and luxurious ambience in seven charming residential units whose bathrooms are equipped with freestanding bathtubs byVALLONE®.
Harmony through strong contrasts
Burnished steel meets fine glasswork, and spacious floor plans convey a sense of freedom in the midst of the metropolis of millions. Seven luxurious units, including a duplex and a penthouse, offer space for individuality. In a conversation with the Ralf Schmitz partners working on the project, the vision behind LINIE72 becomes clear.
VALLONE: What distinguishes the LINIE72 project and what influences are recognizable?
The project creates a finely-tuned artistic synthesis consisting of a scaled-down design vocabulary, sophisticated interiors, and dynamic surroundings. The arc spans nimbly from the architecture of the 1920s to the Berlin of the present. Coherent proportions and clear symmetries are the design leitmotifs of the high-quality limestone façade – combined with skillfully applied manufacture and craftsmanship. TheVALLONE® bathtub, with its filigree edges and side walls running parallel to one another, skillfully marries with the symmetries in this allegory. The linear and dynamic design language of the freestanding bathtub thus corresponds to the building's architecture.
VALLONE: How do the materials work together?
A fine selection of durable materials characterizes the individual furnishings of the spacious premises. Charming components, like the custom narrow steel profiles of the ceiling-high doors and the hand-stained oak floors, create a distinctive look of warm sophistication – at once delicate and with hints of the industrial. Matte black taps byVALLONE® were also selected to match the color concept and the steel profiles. The deep black gives an industrial touch to the sandstone colored structure of the bathroom.
VALLONE: How does the LINIE72 project fit into its surroundings (the neighborhood)?
In the streets around Linienstrasse, you can see what Berlin has become world-famous for: the capital's casual attitude to life. This is exactly what the project shows. The open floor plan, floor-to-ceiling doors, and minimalist rooms convey a sense of lightness. This building presents itself with an aesthetic-yet-functional architecture and has all the makings of a luxury property. This means it fits like a glove into this pulsating district of contrasts.
